Our efforts convinced the Department of Health to hold a public hearing on Nov. 14 on the outrageous power plant that Hu Honua is building on the Big Island. Thank you for signing the petition and writing!

Now we need to follow through with testimony at the hearing. The Malama Hamakua website has all the information you need to submit effective testimony. If you only have 30 seconds, click here.

If you have a little more time, please email testimony ASAP to cleanwaterbranch@doh.hawaii.gov. The key at the Nov. 14 hearing is to force them to follow the law. Get the required permits, do the proper studies, and consult with the agencies as federal law requires. The Hawaii Department of Health has primary responsibility to see that those laws are properly enforced. They also have a responsibility under the State Constitution Public Trust Doctrine and the Precautionary Principle to error on the side of the natural resources.

If you can attend the meeting, even better! Your time to speak will be limited, so consider emailing testimony, and at the meeting just say, “I stand on my written testimony.”
