Today Governor Ige signed two of 350Hawaii’s priority bills, and a third environmental bill, into law.

HB1986 – Requires the Office of Planning in partnership with the Greenhouse Gas Sequestration Task Force to establish a framework for a carbon offset program and report to the Legislature.
HB2106 – Requires environmental assessments and environmental impact statements to consider sea level rise.
HB2182 – Renames the Carbon Farming Task Force to the Greenhouse Gas Sequestration Task Force and makes it and the Hawaii Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Initiative permanent. Increases carbon sequestration efforts. Establishes a net zero-greenhouse gas emissions target for the State—a first in the country!

350Hawaii submitted four official pieces of testimony for HB2106, members submitted another six, and our officers attended several of the bill’s nine public hearings.
